BLUE MOUNTAIN, Miss. – The No. 12 William Carey University women's soccer team returned to the win column in emphatic fashion Saturday afternoon, rolling to a 9-0 victory over Blue Mountain Christian at Topper Field.
The Lady Crusaders dominated from start to finish, outshooting the Toppers 40-0 and holding a commanding 24-0 advantage in shots on goal. William Carey's defense was equally impressive, preventing Blue Mountain Christian from recording a single shot during the match.
Sabrina Ramos Camatta opened the scoring in the 16th minute, finishing a cross from
Raquel Diaz to give the Lady Crusaders an early 1-0 lead. Just two minutes later,
Kayla Martin delivered an assist to
Linda Mustered, who doubled the advantage.
Martin added a goal of her own later in the half before
Paola Alvarez found the back of the net in the 39th minute.
Sara Aguirre capped the first-half scoring with a successful penalty kick in the 40th minute, sending Carey into the break with a 5-0 lead.
The Lady Crusaders wasted little time extending their advantage after halftime. Paris netted her second goal of the match just two minutes into the second half and Mustered followed less than a minute later with her second goal of the day to make it 7-0.
After a brief scoreless stretch,
Mia Encinia added a goal in the 70th minute. Carey closed out the scoring in the 73rd minute when Aguirre connected with Mustered, who completed her hat trick with the team's ninth goal of the afternoon.
William Carey returns to action on Saturday, Oct. 24, when it hosts Xavier University (La.) at Danny Owens Field. Kickoff is set for 1:30 p.m.
