PULASKI, Tenn. – William Carey men's soccer earned a pivotal conference road victory Thursday night, rallying for a 2-1 win over UT Southern at Grissom Pitch.
The Crusaders controlled much of the opening half despite the scoreless deadlock. Both teams recorded seven shots in the period, but Carey held a 5-1 advantage in shots on goal. Neither side could find the breakthrough, sending the match into halftime tied 0-0.
The defensive battle continued through much of the second half before UT Southern broke the deadlock in the 67th minute, taking a 1-0 lead.
Carey quickly responded. In the 73rd minute,
Enzo Galli delivered a perfectly placed ball over the top to
Isaiah Harvey, who finished into the far corner to level the match at 1-1.
The Crusaders continued to press for the go-ahead goal, and their persistence paid off in the 82nd minute. Galli turned provider again, this time setting up
Souleymane Balde for the eventual game-winner.
William Carey's defense took control down the stretch, holding the Firehawks without a shot over the final eight minutes to secure the conference victory.
The Crusaders return to action Saturday, Oct. 17, when they travel to Blue Mountain, Miss., for a conference matchup against Blue Mountain Christian. Kickoff is set for 3:30 p.m.
