Tifton, Ga. — William Carey turned a back-and-forth opening into a full-throttle road domination on Saturday afternoon, exploding past Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College 113–82 in a showcase of offensive firepower.
"We have the potential to be a pretty good team," said Assistant Coach Phillip McCray. "We just have to be willing to do all the little things all the time, and we have to stick to that throughout the many ups and downs the season. I love how we look when we're playing hard and playing together. That's when we're at our best. We had fun today, a lot of energy, and focused on trying to become a better team. As long as we keep the focus on us and staying consistent in making progress, we'll make it make it hard for teams to beat us."
The teams traded early punches, locked at 4–4, before the Crusaders slammed their foot on the gas.
Anthony Robinson and
Jamar Jenkins attacked the paint on consecutive possessions, igniting a 13–6 burst that pushed Carey ahead 17–10 with 12:07 remaining. ABAC hung around briefly, but trailing 29–24, the Stallions couldn't stop what came next.
William Carey unleashed its most electric stretch of the half, ripping off a 29–13 run to storm into halftime up 58–37. Jenkins sizzled from deep, drilling multiple threes—including back-to-back daggers in the final minutes—while Robinson carved his way to the rim and capped the surge with a pair of late free throws.
The Crusaders came out of the locker room already in high gear. Jenkins knocked down two quick free throws,
Javeon Gordon stroked a right-wing three, and
Randarius Hughes muscled in a second-chance layup, ballooning the lead past 30 just three minutes into the second half.
From there, the highlight reel only expanded.
Malik Franklin and
Arzika Seibou poured in mid-range jumpers, hammered home transition dunks, and orchestrated crisp drive-and-kick offense that helped stretch the advantage to 92–53 by the 10-minute mark. Carey never allowed the lead to dip below 30 the rest of the way, cruising to a wire-to-wire, emphatic victory.
Jenkins led the charge with 24 points, followed by Seibou with 18. Robinson added 15, Franklin contributed 14, and Hughes dominated the glass with a 10-point, 10-rebound double-double.
William Carey is back in action on January 22, hosting Brenton-Parker at Clinton Gym. Tip-off is set for 7:30 p.m.
