HATTIESBURG, Miss. – The Lady Crusaders were all business, as they picked up their second sweep in row, defeating Brewton-Parker Christian Saturday afternoon at the Ben Waddle Complex.
Carey jumped all over the Barons in the first set, racking up nine kills to go along with four errors to take an early 13-3 advantage. It was all WCU from there, as they eventually pulled away to a 21-14 lead with four straight errors by the Barons sealing the first set victory.
The Lady Crusaders again got off to a great start in set two building an 11-5 advantage. From there, Carey maintained a comfortable lead until the Barons attempted a late rally, fighting their way to within four at 21-17. WCU wasted no time in ending any hope of a comeback with a kill by
Natalie Bartholomew and three straight aces by
Maurin Reyes to close out the set and take a 2-0 lead.
Set three was a bit different at the start with both teams going back and forth until the Lady Crusaders pulled away to a 12-6 lead behind a 5-0 run. That was all the momentum WCU needed, as they pulled away for good with back-to-back kills by
Alyssa Portee clinching the match.
The Lady Crusaders return to action Saturday, September 27, as they take on Loyola University at 11:00 am and Louisiana Christian at 3:00 pm at the Ben Waddle Complex.
