MOBILE, Ala. – The SSAC Match of the Week saw Mobile defeat WCU in straight sets Saturday afternoon.
Carey started the match with the first two points, but the Rams countered with a 7-2 run. The Lady Crusaders slowed the run and with the help of an error, a block by
Maurin Reyes and
Agnes Hegardt, and a kill by
Natalie Bartholomew tied the set at seven.
Mobile again answered, this time with a 9-2 run to pull away to a seven-point advantage. Just like before, Carey fought back to cut the deficit to just one at 22-21 but the Rams close the set on a 3-1 run to take a 1-0 lead.
Set two saw a much closer battle at the start until the Rams pulled away a 16-9 advantage behind a 9-2 run. The Lady Crusaders mounted a comeback, picking up seven kills, two aces, a block a with the help of two errors battled their way back to within one at 22-21.
Mobile slowed the attack, picking up the next two points but back-to-back kills by
Alyssa Portee tied the set to keep WCU alive. However, the Rams secured the next two points to take the set and a 2-0 lead.
Set three started just like set two with things tight early on and Mobile slowly pulling away to a 17-10 advantage. One difference from the previous set was this time the Rams left no hope of a comeback going on to take the set 25-13.
Carey is back in action on Friday, September 19, as they return home to take on Life University. Play is set to begin at 6:00 pm at the Ben Waddle Complex.
