WCU Volleyball Ends Regular Season With Sweep Over BPC

MOUNT VERNON, Ga. – The Lady Crusaders swept Brewton-Parker on Saturday afternoon, wrapping up the regular season with a strong performance.

The Barons jumped out to an early 12-6 lead. However, four consecutive points by Carey quickly turned the tide, sparking a 15-1 run that gave WCU control and allowed them to take the first set 25-18.

In the second set, Brewton-Parker once again took the early lead. But Riley Carter's kill and back-to-back aces by Brenna Guthrie evened the score at seven. The match saw teams exchanging points until a Carter kill ignited a 9-1 run, putting WCU ahead 20-15.

During this run, three kills, three aces, and a block contributed to the surge. Carey then extended the lead to 21-17. After an error by the Barons, the Lady Crusaders sealed the win with back-to-back kills by Agnes Hegardt and an ace from Gabriela Maceira, taking a 2-0 lead in the match.

In the third set, Carey's early 10-7 lead quickly swelled as WCU took control with an 11-0 run. The Lady Crusaders cruised to a 25-12 victory, completing the sweep.

WCU finished with an attacking percentage of .267, led by Natalie Bartholomew and Riley Carter, who combined for 7 and 6 kills respectively. Maurin Reyes and Katarina Vulic each dished out double-digit assists, with Reyes recording 12 and Vulic adding 10.

Looking ahead, the Lady Crusaders will compete in the SSAC Championship, being held November 13-15 at the Multiplex at Cramton Bowl in Montgomery, Alabama. The tournament begins with pool play on Thursday, featuring WCU facing Life at 11:30 a.m. and Loyola at 4:30 p.m.
