MARIETTA, Ga. – The Lady Crusaders were all business Friday night, cruising to a dominant 3-0 sweep over Life University.
William Carey came out firing in the opening set, storming to a 16-3 lead and never looking back en route to a 25-15 win.
Life University responded early in the second set, taking a brief lead before the Lady Crusaders settled in. Carey pulled ahead 13-11, and the two teams traded points until the Crusaders took control for good at 22-18 behind a trio of kills from
Riley Carter and
Natalie Bartholomew, plus a Life error. The Running Eagles closed the gap to two, but WCU sealed the set with three straight points to go up 2-0 in the match.
In the third set, Carey jumped out to an early lead, but Life stayed within striking distance at 10-9. From there, the Lady Crusaders caught fire, closing the match on an impressive 15-1 run. During that stretch, Carey tallied nine kills, two blocks, and an ace to finish the sweep in dominant fashion.
Bartholomew led the way with a double-double—12 kills and 12 digs—while
Maurin Reyes added 19 assists to pace the offense.
The Lady Crusaders return to action Saturday to wrap up the regular season against Brewton-Parker. First serve is set for 12:00 p.m.
