Lady Crusaders Season Comes To An End

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The WCU Volleyball season concluded as they fell to Point University, 3-1, on Friday afternoon in the SSAC Tournament.

"It is always tough when you end the season on a loss, especially when a team has battled through a plethora of adversity," said Head Coach Ronda Shirley. "To say I am incredibly proud of how this team has responded, grown and battled would be an understatement. Our season didn't go as planned but God put us together for a reason. I am thankful for the opportunity to coach these young ladies."

The match began with Point opening with three consecutive points, followed by WCU responding with three of their own. Both teams exchanged points until the Lady Crusaders gained momentum, pushing ahead to a 20-13 lead on a 6-0 run. WCU closed the set strongly, finishing with a 5-1 run to take the first set.

The second set saw more back-and-forth action, with both teams trading points early on. The Skyhawks gradually pulled ahead, increasing their lead to 12-7. WCU fought back to tie the set at 15, thanks to back-to-back kills from Natalie Bartholomew and Jahaziel Alualu-Talamoa. The set remained competitive until Point gained control with a 4-0 run, leading 22-18. They ultimately closed out the set, 25-19.

The third set continued the intense battle, with Point taking an early 12-8 lead. WCU challenged fiercely, narrowing the gap to 13-12, but the Skyhawks responded with four straight points to regain momentum. They finished the set strong, winning 25-16.

In the fourth set, Point carried that momentum, opening with an 8-3 run. They maintained their lead throughout, ultimately winning the set 25-14 and securing the match.

Carey concludes the season with an overall record of 21-14 and an 11-5 mark in conference play.
