HATTIESBURG, Miss. – It was all Carey Tuesday night at the Ben Waddle Sports Facility, as they defeated Baptist University of Florida in straight sets.
"The energy from the players was great to see tonight," said Head Coach
Ronda Shirley. "We had the opportunity to play everyone on the roster, so it was truly a full team effort. Our main starters throughout the season did a great job of leading and producing in the match. The new faces brought fresh energy and excitement. Always great to get a win on our home court."
WCU opened the first set, scoring eight of the first nine points with five kills and an ace accounting for six of the points. After some back and forth the Eagles fought to within five at 14-9 but the Lady Crusaders answered with an 7-2 run before going on to take the set 25-15.
Carey again got off to a hot start in the second set jumping out to an early 12-6 advantage. The Lady Crusaders took control from there, using an 8-1 run to pull away for good, taking the set 25-14.
It was much of the same in set three, as the Lady Crusaders raced out to a 14-4 advantage with nine of the points coming off kills or blocks. It was all WCU from there, as they quickly extended their lead to 21-8 before sealing the win 25-14.
Carey is back in action Saturday, October 18, as they head to West Point, Ga. to take on Point University in SSAC action. Play is set to begin at 12:00 pm.
