DECATUR, Ala. – The William Carey Softball Team used a five run fifth to capture their fourth SSAC Tournament Title with a 7-3 victory over Middle Georgia State Saturday afternoon at the Wilson Morgan Softball Complex.
Carey got off to a terrible start, as MGA was able to take the early lead with three runs in the first inning. The Lady Crusaders would settle back in and in the second inning,
Kinley Hogue would get WU within one run with a two RBI triple to left center.
After a couple of scoreless innings, the Carey offense exploded for five runs in the fifth inning. With the bases loaded and no outs
Carley Kidder would reach on an error but
Alex Davis would come home to score to tie the game.
Dee Dee West would follow and put the Lady Crusaders in front with a two RBI double to left center with the final two runs of the frame coming on a passed ball.
Ryanne Hornsby would finish things off in the circle allowing just one hit over the final two of play to seal the victory.
Next up for WCU will be the Opening Round of the NAIA Softball World Series being held May 13-16 at Joseph & Nancy Fail Field.
