HATTIESBURG, Miss. – The William Carey Softball opened up play in the NAIA Softball Opening Round with a 3-2 victory over Reinhardt University Monday afternoon at Joseph & Nancy Fail Field.
Carey took advantage of some defensive miscues by the Eagles in the first inning, as
Rachel Rodriguez and
Dee Dee West scored to give WCU an early lead. Reinhardt would get one back in the top of the second on a solo homerun by Jill Martinet.
The Lady Crusaders would hold on to the one run lead until fifth inning when Emily Loveless doubled to left center to score Kyra Lightner to tie the game. However, the game would not remain tied for long, as West would drive in what would be the game winning run in the sixth on a single to right center.
Carey will be in action Wednesday, May 15, as they take on the winner out of Stillman College and Jessup. First pitch is scheduled for 11:00 am at Joseph & Nancy Fail Field.
