JACKSON, Tenn. – The Carey Baseball Team claimed their third SSAC Tournament Title with a 15-4 run rule victory over Blue Mountain Christian Saturday afternoon at Rockabillys Stadium.
Carey would take an early 1-0 lead on a sac fly by
Caleb Laird in the second but the Toppers would answer in the third with four runs on three hits. WCU would get within one run with a run in the bottom of the third on a sac fly by
Jake Lycette and run in the fourth on a RBI by
Kris Jones.
The Crusader offense would come to life in the fifth, as
Bailee Hendon would drive in two with a single to right with
Braydon Coffey following with a double to make it 6-4 Carey. WCU would add two more runs in the inning on sac flies by
Billy Garrity and Laird.
Carey would take a 9-4 lead with a run in the sixth and in the seventh would finish things off with six runs on four hits highlighted by a grand slam from Lycette for the run rule victory.
Next up for Carey is the Opening round of the NAIA Baseball Championship being held May 13-16 at Milton Wheeler Field.
