DECATUR, Ala. – The William Carey Softball Team picked up two wins on day two of the SSAC Softball Championship, defeating Faulkner 8-0 in five innings and Middle Georgia State 3-0 at the Wilson Morgan Softball Complex.
Against the Eagles, Carey got going in the first inning, as
Carley Kidder belted a two run homer to center to give WCU the early lead. The Lady Crusaders would extend their lead in the third with three runs on four hits.
Dee Dee West started the scoring with a single to left and
Susie LeBert followed with a RBI double to make it 4-0 Carey.

WCU would put the game away in fourth with three more runs.
Kinley Hogue and

Ryanne Hornsby was masterful in the circle allowing just one hit in five innings of work to earn the win.
After a nearly three hour weather delay, the Lady Crusaders showed no signs of faltering. After a couple of scoreless innings, Kidder would give Carey the lead with a double to right center to score
Brooke Tanner with an error allowing
Rachel Rodriguez to score as well.
WCU would maintain the two run lead until the sixth when Davis would add an insurance run with a double to left center scoring
Liz Cross for the final margin.
The Lady Crusader defense did their job as well. In the fifth inning, it looked as if MGA would tie the game on a sac fly to right but Rodriguez made a brilliant throw to the plate to double up the runner and end the inning. Once again, the Knights threatened in the top of the seventh but Hogue made a sliding catch up the middle on a ground ball for the final out of the game.
Hornsby picked up her second win of the day allowing just two hits in seven innings of work.
With the win against Middle Georgia, the Lady Crusaders advance to the SSAC Championship Game. First pitch is scheduled for 12:00 pm at the Wilson Morgan Softball Complex.
