HATTIESBURG, Miss. – The William Carey Softball Team split a Saturday afternoon double against Brewton-Parker, falling in game one 5-2 but rebounding to take game two 7-2 at Joseph & Nancy Fail Field.
Carey would get on the board first on an
Albanie Fussell RBI single to left in the second but the Barons responded with four runs in the top of the third to take the lead. The Lady Crusaders would get one back in the bottom half inning but that would be as close as they would get, as BPC would make it a three run lead again with a run in the fifth for the final margin.
Game two saw Brewton-Parker take lead with a run first and third inning. However, the Carey offense came to life in the bottom of the third, as they took the lead for good with three runs on four hits.
Rachel Rodriguez would jump start the offense with a triple to right center to score
Brooke Tanner for the first run of the inning.
Carley Kidder would follow, breaking the career doubles record of 51 set by Hannah Cook-Kelley with her 15
th double of the season to tie the game.
Susie LeBert would drive in the final run of the inning on a single to center.
The Lady Crusaders would take a commanding lead in the fourth with four runs on three hits. A bases loaded walk by Rodiguez would score the first run with Kidder driving in two with her second double of the game.
Dee Dee West would score the final run of the frame on a sac fly to right.
Carey is back in action Tuesday, April 9, as they take on Louisiana Christian in non-conference action. First pitch is scheduled for 3:00 pm at Joseph & Nancy Fail Field.
