Lady Crusaders Pick Up A Pair Of Run Rule Victories

HATTIESBURG, Miss. – The William Carey Softball Team picked up a pair of run rule victories over Louisiana Christian Tuesday afternoon at Joseph & Nancy Fail Field, taking game one 8-0 and game two 10-2.
 
The Lady Crusaders got the offense going in the third inning when Rachel Rodriguez and Carley Kidder went back to back with doubles with Dee Dee West tripling to right to make it 2-0.  Susie LeBert would follow with a single, scoring West to give Carey a 3-0 lead.
 
WCU followed up the three run third with a four run fourth.  Alex Davis would drive in the first run with a single to right.  Rodriguez would make it 5-0 with a defensive miscue allowing a run to score.  The final run of the frame would come on a sac fly by Kidder.  Lilli Robertson would finish things off in the sixth with a RBI single to center.
 
Starting pitcher Ryanne Hornsby took care of the rest allowing just one hit in six innings of work.
 
Game two saw WCU take an early 1-0 lead in the first on a West RBI groundout and extended their lead to three in the third on a defensive miscue by the Wildcats.  The Lady Crusaders would make it 5-0 in the fifth with a run coming on another defensive miscue with the other coming on a RBI by Magen Caro.
 
After giving up two runs in the top of the sixth Carey would respond in the bottom half of the inning with five runs on six hits.  West would drive in the first two runs on a single to center with Liz Cross making it 8-2.  Kinley Hogue would cap the scoring with a two RBI single to center for the run rule victory.
 
Kate Schroeder picked up the win in the circle allowing two unearned runs on five hits in six innings of work.
 
Carey is back in action Friday, April 12, as they head to Pulaski, Tenn. to take on UT-Southern in SSAC action.  First pitch of the double header is scheduled for 1:00 pm.
