Lady Crusaders Sweep Middle Georgia

HATTIESBURG, Miss. – The William Carey Softball Team swept Middle Georgia State in SSAC action, taking game one 5-1 and game two 1-0, Friday afternoon at Joseph & Nancy Fail Field.
 
A Dee Dee West RBI single to left in the first inning would give Carey the early lead.  The Lady Crusaders would extend their lead in the in the third, as Albanie Fussell drove in West and Carley Kidder with a single to center to make it 3-0.
 
The Knights would get one run back in the fourth but WCU responded in the bottom half of the inning with two runs.  Kidder would score the first run of the inning with a double to center with Fussell picking up her third RBI with a single to right for the final margin.
 
Ryanne Hornsby went all seven innings allowing just the one run on seven hits to earn the win.
 
Game two saw all the offense come in the first inning.  Kidder would score what would be the game winning run with a single to center.  Starting pitcher Kate Schroeder took care of the rest, as she threw a two hit shutout to seal the victory.
 
Carey is back in action tomorrow, as they take on Brewton-Parker in conference action.  First pitch of the double header is scheduled for 12:00 pm at Joseph & Nancy Fail Field.
