Eighteen-year-old freshman, Samantha Roberts, picked up a bow for the first time at just nine years old and is now amongst the top archers in the nation.
Â
In February, Samantha, along with seventeen other members of the William Carey University Archery Team, traveled to Madisonville, Ky., to compete at the USA Archery Indoor Nationals Sectional. Over two days of shooting, Samantha shot four rounds of phenomenal scores. Her final score at the end of the tournament was 1171/1200, earning her a first-place spot in both Collegiate and U21 (under 21 years of age).
Â
Over the next three weeks, ten other cities across the U.S. held their sectionals. At the end of the three weeks, the scores were in, and Samantha earned the title of Collegiate Female Compound Indoor National Champion and U21 Female Compound Indoor National Champion. In addition to Samantha's two championship titles, she also finished fourth in the nation amongst women of all ages, as well as both amateur and professional archers.
Â
She has now begun her outdoor season and will be traveling to Newberry, Fla., in just two weeks to defend the Gator Cup Champion title she claimed the previous two years. Just days after Samantha returns from Florida, she will then travel to Statesboro, Ga., with the William Carey University Archery Team to compete in the USA Archery Collegiate Target National Championship.
Â
This tournament will conclude the 2023-2024 collegiate archery season, as well as Samantha's freshman season. She has high hopes that she will both defend her title in Florida, as well as claim a new title as the Female Collegiate Compound Outdoor National Champion in just a few short weeks.
