Lady Crusaders Bring Home SSAC Championship

GULF SHORES, Ala. – The William Carey Women's Track & Field left little to doubt, as they compiled 299 points to take home their second straight SSAC Outdoor Track & Field Championship.
 
"We were not expecting to score 299 points," said Head Coach Ryan McKenzie. "Every athlete contributed! The most impressive thing is that we were able to compete at such a level individually and continue to have such a dominating performance as a team. Our women's team is special and we look to continue to build on the foundation that has been built." 
 
The Lady Crusaders got off to great start with the top four spots in the 100m.  Machaeda Linton posted a time of 11.55 for first with Salieci Myles taking second with a time of 11.78.  Fredricka McKenzie took third in time of 11.84 while Tyeese Smith finished in fourth.
 
In the 200m, Joy Abu posted a time of 23.82 for first with Jennifer Ezeoha and Ja'Niya McDonald taking third and fourth.  Abu and Ezeoha went one two in the 400m while Simancas posted a time of 2:15 in the 800m for a first place finish.  
 
In the 1500m, Blanca Conesa and Maria Tirado would go one two with Isabelle Wheeler posting a time 39:49 in the 10,000m for a first place finish.  Just like 100m, the Lady Crusaders would take the top four spots in the 100m hurdles.
 
Myles would take first with a time of 13.24 with Abu finishing in second with a time of 13.49.  Daena Dyer would take third while Latchinson finished in fourth.  Fegor Clifford, Latchinson, and Dyer would continue the strong showing in the running event going one two three in the 400m hurdles.
 
In the 3000m steeplechase, Conesa and Tirado took second and third with WCU taking first in the 4x100m relay with a time 45.37.  Carey would cap off the running events with first place finishes in the 4x400 and 4x800 relays.
 
Carey got off great start in the field events, Fabiana Morales, Zaniyah Wilson, and Clifford finished first, second and fourth in the high jump.  For the third time, the Lady Crusaders placed four in the top five in the long jump.
 
Linton posted a mark of 6.03m for first with Clifford taking second.  Morales would post a mark of 5.54m for third with Wilson taking fourth.  Linton, Clifford, and Wilson would go one two three in the triple jump with Monica Korowi placing third in the javelin with a mark of 28.26m.
