HATTIESBURG, Miss. – The William Carey Softball Team picked up a pair of SSAC wins Monday afternoon, defeating Thomas University 4-2 in game one and 4-3 in game two.
Carley Kidder gave Carey a 1-0 lead in the first on a RBI single but the Night Hawks would get the run back in the second to tie the game. The game would not be tied long though, as a defensive miscue in the third along with a
Susie LeBert RBI single would put WCU back in front 3-1.
The Lady Crusaders would take a three run lead in the fourth on a sac fly
Rachel Rodriguez with Thomas managing to push a run across in the sixth for the final margin.
Game two started like game one, as the Lady Crusaders would take the lead in the first on a LeBert two RBI double to center with the Night Hawks tying the game in the third. However, Carey would respond in the bottom half with two runs of their own on a
Dee Dee West double to left center. Thomas would threaten in the fifth, but relief pitcher
Ryanne Hornsby was able to limit the damage to just one run.
Carey is back in action Tuesday, April 23, as they head to Mobile, Ala. to take Mobile in SSAC action. First pitch is scheduled for 4:00 pm.
