Lady Crusaders Sweep BMCU in SSAC Action

BLUE MOUNTAIN, Miss. – The William Carey Softball Team bounced back from a double header loss to UT-Southern on Friday to defeat Blue Mountain Christian 6-0 and 9-4 on Saturday in SSAC action.
 
Liz Cross would score the first run of the game in the second inning on a single to left center.  The 1-0 Carey lead would hold until the sixth when Albanie Fussell would extend the WCU with a double to left center, scoring Cross and Dee Dee West.
 
The Lady Crusaders would add the final runs of the game in the seventh, as Susie LeBert scored two on a double with Cross bring home LeBert on a single.  Ryanne Hornsby picked up the win in the circle going all seven innings allowing just five hits.
 
Game two saw Carey take the early lead, as West and Cross drove in two runs in the first inning.  However, the Toppers would take the lead in third with three runs.  The lead would short lived though, as the Lady Crusaders would tie it at three all in the fourth on a double steal that scored Brooke Tanner.
 
Carey would take the lead for good in the fifth with three runs on three hits.  Tanner would drive in two on a triple to left center with Rachel Rodriguez scoring Tanner.  WCU would put the game away in the sixth, as Cross capper her stellar day the plate with two RBI double to center with a defensive miscue scoring the final run of the game.
 
Carey is back in action Monday, April 15, as they take on Thomas University in conference action.  First pitch of the double header is scheduled for 1:00 pm at Joseph & Nancy Fail Field.
