MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The William Carey Softball Team wrapped up their weekend, splitting with Faulkner University, taking game one 10-0 but falling in game two 5-3 Saturday afternoon at Wynn Field.
In game one Carey would get two runs on the first on a defensive miscue by the Eagles and
Rachel Rodriguez would make it 4-0 WCU in the second on a triple to centerfield. The Lady Crusaders would extend their lead in the third on RBIs by
Kinley Hogue and
Alex Davis.
Carey would put the game in the sixth with four runs on six hits. Hogue would score
Susie LeBert with a single with
Brooke Tanner driving in
Liz Cross to make it 8-0. Rodriguez would cap the scoring in the inning with a two RBI double to center.
Ryanne Hornsby picked up the win in the circle, scattering five hits in six innings of work.
In game two, Faulkner would take the early lead with a run in the second but Carey would take the lead in the third with two runs on three hits. Tanner would tie the game with a RBI double to right, scoring Hogue from third. Rodriguez would follow but grounded into a double play allowing Davis to score.
The Eagles would retake the lead for good with a four run fourth. However, Carey would threaten in the sixth but managed to only push one across the plate.
WCU is back in action Friday, April 5, as they return home to take on Middle Georgia State in SSAC action. First pitch is scheduled for 2:00 pm at Joseph & Nancy Fail Field.
