HATTIESBURG, Miss. – The William Carey Baseball Team took both game of a double header to open up a three game set against Stillman College, Friday afternoon at Milton Wheeler Field.
After spotting the Tigers four runs in the first, the Crusaders responded with five runs on five hits in the bottom half of the inning. Carey opened with four straight hits with
Jake Lycette driving in
RJ Stinson and
Bailee Hendon scoring
Bridley Thomas.
Later in the inning,
Billy Garrity tied the game with a two RBI single to right center and
Brady Logan would score
Brady Wilson to put Carey ahead 5-4. The Crusaders followed up the five run first with a four run second with RBIs by Hendon,
Brady Wilson, and Logan with the fourth coming on a wild pitch.
Stillman would add a run in the fourth but Carey once again answered with runs in the bottom half of the inning. Thomas would score the first run of the inning with Lycette make it 12-5 WCU with a two RBI single to right. Carey would add four more runs in the fifth with the Tigers adding two runs in the seventh for the final margin.
It was all Carey in game two. The Crusaders opened with two runs in the first with one coming on a wild pitch and the second coming a RBI single to left by Lycette. The Crusaders would make it a three run lead in the second on a solo homerun by Logan and would take a commanding 8-0 lead with a five run fourth.
Carey would add another run in the fifth and would complete the run rule victory in the seventh on an inside the park homerun by
Ty Little.
WCU is back in action tomorrow, as they wrap up the series against Stillman. First pitch is scheduled for 1:00 pm at Milton Wheeler Field.
