WEST POINT, Ga. – The William Carey Softball Team returned to the diamond for the first time in over a week and picked up a pair of SSAC wins, defeating Point University 9-0 in game one and 13-3 in game two Thursday afternoon.
Carley Kidder got things going in the first inning with a RBI triple to right and in the second inning
Brooke Tanner drove in two with a double to centerfield. The Lady Crusaders would pull away for good in the third with four runs on four hits.
Susie LeBert would drive in Kidder on a double to left with
Kinley Hogue making it 7-0 with a two RBI single to center. WCU would complete the run rule victory with a run in the fourth and fifth innings.
Ryanne Hornsby threw her first collegiate no hitter to pick up the win in the circle.
In game two, the Skyhawks would take the early lead in the first on a defensive miscue but the Lady Crusaders would tie the game in the second on a bases loaded walk by Tanner. Kidder would pick up two more RBIs on the day with a double in the fourth to give Carey the lead.
Point would get one back in the bottom half of the fourth and tie the game with a run in the fifth. The tie would hold until the seventh when Carey broke the game the wide open with 10 runs on eight hits.
Madison Prejean would break the deadlock with a two run double to left.
Rachel Rodriguez would make it 8-3 with with a three RBI triple to center with Kidder scoring Rodriguez with a single.
Magen Caro would cap the scoring in the inning with a grandslam to center.
The Lady Crusaders are back in action tomorrow as they head to Montgomery, Ala. to take on Faulkner University in conference action. First pitch is slated for 1:00 pm.
