THOMASVILLE, Ga. – The William Carey Baseball Team took both games of a Saturday double header to sweep Thomas University in SSAC action.
Carey would get on the board in the first inning on a sac fly by
Bailee Hendon but a solo homerun in the third by the Nighthawks would the even things up. The game would not be tied for long, as Carey would take the lead for good in the fourth on RBIs by
Caleb Laird and
Billy Garrity to take a 3-1 lead.
Jake Lycette extended the WCU lead to three with a RBI single in the fifth and
RJ Stinson would finish things off in the sixth with a three run homerun to left for the final margin.
Dario Herrera picked up the win on the mound going all seven innings allowing just the one run on four hits with nine strikeouts.
The Crusaders offense kept up the attack in game two taking an early 5-0 lead in the second inning.
Brady Wilson started things off with a three run shot to right with a defensive miscue scoring the fourth run. Stinson would cap the scoring in the inning with an RBI single but Thomas would get two runs back in the bottom half of inning.
Carey would add a run in the fifth on a wild pitch with the Nighthawks getting a run in the sixth. The final runs of the game would come in the seventh and eighth innings.
Luke Lycette picked up the win in relief going five innings allowing two runs on five hits with six strikeouts.
Carey is back in action Friday, March 22, as they take on UT-Southern in conference action. First pitch is slated for 6:00 pm at Milton Wheeler Field.
