HATTIESBURG, Miss. – The William Carey Baseball took both games of a conference double header against UT-Southern, taking game one 3-2 in extra innings and game two 2-0, Saturday afternoon at Milton Wheeler Field.
Game one saw both pitchers dealing, as there was only one hit allowed over the first three innings. The deadlock would not be broken until the fourth, as
RJ Stinson would rip a two RBI triple to centerfield to put Carey ahead 2-0.
WCU would hold the two run lead until the sixth when a throwing error by the Crusaders would allow two runs to score to tie the game. From there the game would head into extra innings and in the eighth inning,
Jake Lycette would come through with a two out RBI single to right, scoring
Bridley Thomas for the walk-off win.
Andrew Shirah picked up on the mound going all eight innings allowing no earned runs on three hits with four strikeouts.
Runs were at a premium once in again in game two but the Crusaders would take the early lead with a run in the second on a
Brady Wilson RBI single to center. The one run lead would remain until the fifth inning when Lycette would add a little breathing room with a RBI single to center.
Dario Herrera did the rest, picking up the win going six innings allowing just three hits with 10 strikeouts with
John Snyder closing it out with one inning of work not allowing a hit with two strikeouts.
Carey is back in action tomorrow, as they wrap up the series against UT-Southern with a single game. First pitch is slated for 1:00 pm at Milton Wheeler Field.
