THOMASVILLE, Ga. – The William Carey Baseball Team opened up a three game set with Thomas University with an 8-1 victory over the Nighthawks Friday night.
Both teams would trade runs in the first but it would be Carey that break the game open with a five run third. A
Jake Lycette triple would get things rolling, scoring
Bridley Thomas and
RJ Stinson, to make it 3-1 WCU.
Caleb Laird followed with an RBI single with
Rigoberto Hernandez launching a two run shot to give the Crusaders a five run lead. Carey would add a run in the sixth on a sac fly by
Bailee Hendon with the final run of the game coming in the eighth on a RBI single by Lycette.
Andrew Shirah took care of the rest, going all nine innings allowing just the one run on nine hits with three strikeouts.
Carey is back in action tomorrow, as they wrap with the series with a double header beginning at 12:00 pm.
