HATTIESBURG, Miss. – The William Carey Baseball Team picked up a run rule victory Tuesday afternoon, defeating LSU-Alexandria 17-7 at Milton Wheeler Field.
The Generals got things going with two runs in the second but Carey responded with six in the bottom half of the inning. After three straight walks loaded the bases,
Jerod Williams tied the game with a two RBI single to left.
It looked as if LSUA would get out of the inning after picking up two quick outs but
Bailee Hendon kept the inning alive with a single to left to make it 4-2 WCU.
Jake Lycette followed with a two run homerun to right to cap the scoring in the inning.
LSU-Alexandria would pick up a run in the fourth and fifth to get within two but the Crusaders once again answered in a big way in the bottom of the fifth. After loading the bases without a hit a wild pitch and a walk would push across the first runs of the inning.
Back to back hits by
RJ Stinson and
Bridley Thomas would make it 14-4 with Hendon scoring Stinson on a sac fly. The final run of the inning would come on a
Caleb Laird RBI single to left. After taking a 15-5 lead at the end of six innings, the Generals would stave off the run rule with two runs in the top of the seventh.
However, Carey would walk it off in the bottom of the seventh on a two run homer by
Billy Garrity.
RJ Stinson,
Bailee Hendon, and
Jerod Williams all finished with three RBIs while
Jake Lycette and
Billy Garrity each had two RBIs.
Carey is back in action Friday, March 15, as they travel to Thomasville, Ga. to take on Thomas University in SSAC action. First pitch is scheduled for 5:00 pm.
