Lady Crusaders Sweep XULA

NEW ORLEANS, La. – The William Carey Softball Team swept Xavier University Tuesday afternoon, taking game 5-1 and game two 6-3.

In game one, Carey picked up a run in the first on a Dee Dee West RBI single but XULA evened things up with a run in the second.  The game would not stay tied for long, as Albanie Fussell scored West with a single to put WCU up for good.

In the fourth, the Lady Crusaders would make it 3-1 on a bases loaded walk and in the sixth Carley Kidder and Susie LeBert would drive in the final runs of the game.

Ryanne Hornsby picked up the win in the circle going seven innings allowing just the one run on five hits with three strikeouts.

Things were scoreless in game two until the Lady Crusaders offense found their stride in the fourth inning.  West started things off with a two run homer to left with Magen Caro driving in two more with a single to right.

A wildpitch would make it 5-0 Carey with the final run of the inning coming on a bases loaded walk.  Starting pitcher Kate Schroeder ran into a bit of trouble in the fifth but managed to limit the damage to just three runs then worked a clean sixth and seventh inning to preserve the win.

Carey is back in action Friday, February 23, as they open up SSAC against UT-Southern.  First pitch is scheduled for 3:00 pm at Joseph & Nancy Fail Field.
