WEST POINT, Ga. – The William Carey Baseball Team opened up SSAC play with a 5-2 victory over Point University Thursday evening at West Point Park.
The Skyhawks took the early lead with a run in the second but it would be short lived, as Carey would take the lead for good in the top of the third.
Jake Lycette would get things going with an RBI groundout to score
Rigoberto Hernandez and
Braydon Coffey followed with a single to center, scoring
RJ Stinson.
The Crusaders would extend their lead in the fourth on a passed ball and in the fifth
Billy Garrity would drive in two more runs with a single to left. Point would manage to push across a run in the seventh for the final margin.
Bobby Magee picked up the win going six innings allowing two runs on six hits with six strikeouts.
John Snyder picked up his fourth save of the season to tie the career saves record set by Justin Hennington.
WCU is back in action Friday, February 16, as they wrap up the series against Point with a double header. First pitch is scheduled for 12:00 pm.
