WEST POINT, Ga. – The William Carey Baseball Team rallied late to take game one against Point University 4-1 but could not complete the sweep, falling in game two of the double header 11-3 Friday afternoon.
The Skyhawks struck first on a sac fly in the second inning and the 1-0 lead would hold until the sixth inning. After a one out single and stolen base put
Jake Lycette in scoring position,
Braydon Coffey then delivered the hit Carey was needing with a double to leftfield to score Lycette and tie the game.
The Crusaders would complete the comeback in the seventh, as
Bridley Thomas led off the inning with a solo homerun and a defensive miscue would plate two more runs.
John Snyder would close things out for WCU, picking up his fifth save of the season to break the career saves record.
Dario Herrera picked up the win going six innings allowing just one run on five hits with six strikeouts.
Things were much different in game two, as pitching and offensive struggles plagued the Crusaders, as they dropped the final game of the series.
Carey is back in action Tuesday, February 20, as they travel to Clinton, Miss. to take on Mississippi College. First pitch is scheduled for 2:00 pm.
