COCHRAN, Ga. – The William Carey Men's Basketball Team wrapped up their Georgia road trip with a 77-73 victory over Middle Georgia State Saturday afternoon.
Both teams came out trading shots with MGA eventually taking an 18-13 lead with under 10 minutes left in the half. However, a three pointer by
Kolby Moore and a jumper by
Ashton Campbell tied the game with a three pointer coming from
Kaeden Laws with under six to play to give Carey a 21-20 lead. From there the Crusaders would maintain the lead for the remainder of the half going on to take a 32-34 lead into the break.
WCU came out of the break quickly stretching their lead to 42-33 just three minutes in. However, the Knights would settle down and eventually retake the lead at 43-42. However, the Crusaders halted the run and went back to work going on to build a 66-54 lead with six minutes remaining. Just as it looked as if Carey had things well in hand the Knights mounted a comeback.
With under a minute to play, MGA had battled their way back, cutting the deficit to just one point at 74-73. The Crusader offense and defense would stand strong and seal the victory by going three of four from the free throw line and not allowing a basket over the final seconds.
Dylan Brumfield led four Crusaders in double figures with 19 points.
Kolby Moore and
Kaeden Laws each added 13 points with
Emile Kazeneza finishing with 12 points.
WCU is back in action Thursday, February 15, as they return home to take on UT-Southern in conference action. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 pm at Clinton Gym.
