JACKSON, Miss. – The William Carey Volleyball Team left little to doubt, as they defeated Tougaloo College in straight sets Wednesday night.
The Lady Crusaders got off to a great start in the first set, opening with seven straight points before extending their lead to ten at 12-2. After giving up the next two points, Carey responded with a 6-0 run before cruising to the 25-10 first set victory.
Things were a little closer at the start of the second set with Carey having the largest lead at three. With WCU leading 12-9, they made their move behind a 6-0 run, with five of the points coming off four kills by
Suelen Lima and service ace by Bettini. The Lady Crusaders would go on to close the set on a 7-2 run to take the set 25-11 and the 2-0 lead.
After a back and forth start to the third set, the Lady Crusaders once again gained separation from the Bulldogs behind a 6-1 run to take a 12-7 lead. The Bulldogs managed to cut the deficit to three points at 13-10, but just like in the other sets, WCU pulled away for good using a 7-2 run and never looked back, taking the set 25-16.
Suelen Lima led the attack with fourteen kills.
Katarina Vulic picked up 29 assists while
Kayla Benedic had ten digs.
Carey is back in action Friday, November 1, as they travel to Mobile, Ala. to take on Mobile in SSAC action. Play is set to begin at 6:00 pm.
