Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Crusaders Crush Bulldogs on Senior Day

HATTIESBURG, Miss. – The Crusaders took care of business with a dominant performance on senior night, knocking off Tougaloo 8-0.

The Crusaders took longer than expected to open the scoring as they didn't get themselves on the board until the 14th minute. Leonel Toro found himself in acres of space high on the right-hand side. Toro wrapped his foot around the ball and found Jamie Wynne on the penalty spot. Wynne dropped the ball dead at his feet and rifled it past Kelvin Gardner into the bottom left-hand corner.

Tougaloo didn't just come to lie down and accept defeat. The Bulldogs came with a game plan and looked to spoil the Crusader's senior night festivities. Tougaloo sat in deep defensively, making it hard for the Crusaders to play. The Bulldogs played some intricate soccer when given the chance. Their best chance came from a Crusader mistake as a poor clearance fell to the feet of Jordan Jones who took a touch and fired straight at Andreas Kokoska who saved easily.

Carey's relentless pressure finally paid off as they doubled their lead on the 28-minute mark. A Giovanni Soares long ball over the top was chased down by Wynne. He then wrestled the defender off the ball and set Santiago Cardona running on to the top of the penalty area. Cardona kept his cool and stroked the ball into the bottom right-hand corner.

Carey would grab one more goal before the half time interval. Toro again, causing havoc down the right-hand side, drove towards the goal line and pulled the ball back to an awaiting Rico Duggan. Duggan had nothing to do but steer the ball into the net from six-yards out and put the Crusaders three up at the half.

Carey continued their dominance into the second half. Carey controlled possession of the ball and tested Gardner in the Tougaloo goal on several occasions.

The Crusaders extended their lead on 58th minute. A cross into the box found Markus Meincke wrestling with the defender for possession. The ball found its way to the feet of Teddy Miranda on the edge of the box who drilled the ball low into the bottom left corner of the goal.

Duggan picked up his second goal, and the pick of the bunch, on the 75 minute mark. Maruan Foletto Da Silva played the ball into Duggan high up the field. Duggan drove forward onto the top left of the Tougaloo penalty box. He then took a touch out his feet and rattled the ball across goal and into the top right corner.

Jack Greenwood would put the sealing kiss on proceedings with a hattrick in the final 10 minutes. All goals game courtesy of crosses, assisted by Duggan, Cardona, & Da Silva. His second was the pick of the bunch. Cardona played the ball into Greenwood in the box. Greenwood noticed the keeper coming off his line, took a touch, and lofted the ball over the stranded Gardner

The Crusaders are back in action Thursday, October 24th as they travel to Mobile. The game is set to get underway at 7:30 PM.
