Lady Crusaders Take Down #10 UT-Southern

HATTIESBURG, Miss. – In a battle of NAIA powerhouses, Alyssia Davis insured that the #1 Lady Crusaders prevailed, giving WCU a 3-2 win over #10 UT-Southern Thursday evening at Danny Owens Field.

Things were scoreless for the first 20 minutes until Christina Salmon crossed the ball from the right side for Julia Herbst who powered a header past the Firehawk keeper to give Carey a 1-0 lead.  The one goal would hold until the 37th minute when Mariangela Jimenez crossed the ball from the right side to the near post where Davis was there to tap it in, giving WCU a 2-0 lead heading into the break.

UTS would come out the break and waste no time pressing the attack.  The Firehawks cashed in on a PK in the 52nd minute and would tie the game at two all on a goal by Maclani Micheal in the 53rd minute.  Things remained deadlock until under 20 minutes to play.  That's when Herbst tapped the ball inside the box to Davis who then beat a defender and fire what would be the game winner into the top left of the goal.

WCU is back in action Saturda,y as they take on Blue Mountain Christian University in SSAC action.  Kick-off is slated for 1:30 pm at Danny Owens Field.
