HATTIESBURG, Miss. – #7 William Carey continued their hot streak, defeating UT-Southern 3-1 in Thursday night at Danny Owens Field.
The Crusaders took the early lead, as Giovanni Soares headed a corner kick to the feet of
Roberto Rangel who then tapped it past the UTS keeper just two minutes into the contest. From there the defenses took over sending the game into the break with Carey leading 1-0.
The second half started similar to the first, as
Caoimhin McConnell capitalized on a PK in the 50
th minute, to give the Crusaders a two goal lead. The Firehawks broke through in the 62
nd minute on a goal by Konstantinos Theodor.
However, WCU answered, as Rangel played a brilliant ball to McConnell who the fired a shot from just inside the 18 yard box to the left corner of the goal.
Andreas Kokoska did the rest coming up with two huge saves in the final minutes to preserve the win.
WCU is back in action Saturday, as they take on Blue Mountain Christian University in conference action. Kick-off is slated for 4:00 pm at Danny Owens Field.
