MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The William Carey Volleyball Team opened up play in the Faulkner Invite with a 3-0 victory over Tennessee Wesleyan but dropped their second match of day 3-0 to Columbia International.
The first set against TWU saw both teams going back and forth. With Carey holding a slim 19-18 lead they used a 6-1 run to take the set. The Lady Crusaders wasted no time in the second set, as they opened on a 5-0 run before jumping out to a 15-3 advantage and never looked backed, taking the set 25-8.
WCU stumbled out of the gate to start the third set, falling behind 9-5 but would eventually regain their footing, battling back to tie the set at nine all. From there the Lady Crusaders went on 13-4 run to pull away for good, taking the set 25-15 and the match.
Against Columbia, things went back and forth to start, but with the set tied at eight all CIU slowly pulled away using an 11-4 run before going on to take the set 25-21. From there WCU struggled dropping the second set 25-9 and the third 25-13.
Carey is back in action today, as they wrap up play in the Faulkner Invite with matches against Reinhardt University at 9:00 am and Ave Maria at 1:00 pm.
