THOMASVILLE, Ga. - #1 William Carey Women's Soccer opened up conference play with a dominating 10-2 victory over Thomas University Thursday afternoon.
The Lady Crusaders offense got off to a hot start, as
Christina Salmon put WCU up 1-0 with a goal in the first minute of the game. Less than a minute later Salmon found
Julia Herbst who made it 2-0 Carey. The Nighthawks answered 30 seconds later with a goal by Pearl Mortimer.
Things slowed a bit after that but
Karen Vilau pushed the WCU lead back to two with a goal in the seventh minute. The Lady Crusaders extended their lead to 4-1 in the 22
nd minute on a goal by
Mariangela Jimenez. It looked as if Carey would take a three goal lead into the break but in the final minute Madelyn Musgrove netted a goal to send the game into the break 4-2 WCU.
The Lady Crusaders stayed hot in the second half, as Herbst netted the fifth goal just three minutes into the half. It was not until the 61
st minute that another goal was scored and it would be back to back goals by Carey. The First came off the foot of Jimenez with
Maria Azarias picking up the assist and the second would come from Salmon with
Fernanda Pena Nieto picking up the assist.
Vilau, Jimenez, and
Kokona Nishikawa would add the final goals of the match for WCU.
The Lady Crusaders are back in action Saturday, as they head to West Point, Ga. to take on Point University. Kick-off is slated for 12:30 pm.Â
