William Carey University Cheer Clinic and Tryout
Monday, September 4, 2023 from 6 – 8 pm in the Clinton Gym
Applicants will be taught several cheers and a dance that they will be required to perform. Applicants will need to be prepared to do jumps and stunt during this time. At 7:30 applicants will perform material learned in front of judges and coach. The clinic/tryout is a closed event and only applicants, current cheerleaders, coach, judges and any other personnel helping will be allowed to attend.
What to wear:
Black or red athletic shorts
Red or white shirt or tank top (not too big)
Tennis/cheerleading shoes
Hair should be pulled back out of your face
No jewelry
Appearances are important and you should look like you were cheering at a game.
What to bring:
Your application and all components required (physical, proof of insurance, etc.)
Applications and other paperwork can be turned in at or before tryouts
What to expect at tryouts:
During tryouts, applicants will be judges on voice projection, technique, spirit/enthusiasm, stunting, tumbling, and overall impression.
The dance and cheers will be performed in groups and each applicant will do a toe touch individually.
Tumbling is not a required skilled. Extra points will be given if you can tumble.
Judges will be looking for basic knowledge and execution of stunts.
If an individual does not know how to execute one of these skills they will be shown the skill, the skill will be explained to them, and then they will be expected to attempt it.
The William Carey University Cheerleading squad is a wonderful experience that allows you to create meaningful relationships with the other members while doing something you love, cheering. This squad requires hard work and dedication. If you are willing to put in the work and time you will receive a rewarding experience!
General Information on the squad:
- The squad will consist of up to 15 members.
- All squad members are required to have and maintain a 2.5 Cumulative GPA.
- The WCU cheerleading squad cheers at all men's and women's home basketball games.
- The squad will attend a summer camp. This is mandatory and not excusable.
- Practices are mandatory! We have practice twice a week.
- The squad makes personal appearances on and off campus that are mandatory.
Financial Requirements:
- The squad members receive up to a $1,200 scholarship.
- The University provides uniforms and everything needed
