MOBILE, Ala. – The William Carey Competitive Cheer Team competed in their first ever competition, taking part in the Ram Showdown Thursday morning, hosted by the University of Mobile at the H. Austill Pharr Gymnasium.
"Wearing the WCU across their chest for the first time in history at cheer competition and I cannot be more proud of the performances they gave today," said Head Coach Laura Lightsey. "After last minute changes they fought hard and persevered to represent their university. Today was a great day to "Get to" be a William Carey Cheerleader."
The day started with a head-to-head, featuring WCU and Mobile with both teams performing one routine. The Lady Crusaders started things off with a 66.55 with the Rams following with a score of 83.63 to win the competition.
The afternoon session was a three-team competition, featuring Mobile, Loyola University (La.), and WCU. The Wolfpack of Loyola started the afternoon, posting a score of 79.26 eventually placing them in second place. Carey's performance followed and saw an improved score from the morning routine of 68.13 but the Rams also improved their score from the morning with an 87.18 to take first place.
The Lady Crusaders are set to return to action on Sunday, February 23 in Marietta, Ga., participating in the Life University (Ga.) Classic.
