Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 LEBANON, Tenn. – The William Carey Volleyball Team picked up their first win of the season, as they defeated Faulkner University 3-1 in non-conference action to wrap up play in the Phoenix Invitational.

After dropping both matches on Friday and the first on Saturday the Lady Crusaders broke through in their final match of the tournament.  The Eagles jumped out to an early 6-2 lead to start the match but the Lady Crusaders battled back eventually taking a 9-8 lead.  From there things remained close with Carey holding a slim lead.  With WCU leading 21-19, Carey closed out the set on a 4-2 run to take a 1-0 lead.

Just the like the first set, Faulkner took an early 5-2 lead. However, the Lady Crusaders responded with six straight points to take the lead only to see the Eagles counter with five straight points of their own to retake the lead 10-8.  Things went back and forth for a bit until WCU went on another 6-0 run and never looked back, taking the set 25-20.

The third set was back and forth until Faulkner used an 8-4 run to pull away to an 18-13 advantage.  However, WCU regrouped and battled back tying the set at 22 all. Again both teams went back and forth but it would be the Eagles that would come out on top 26-24 to make it 2-1 Carey.

The Lady Crusaders came out firing in the fourth set, racing out to an 11-6 advantage, before pulling away for good taking the set 25-15 and the match.

Elaina Anderson led the attack finishing with 25 kills and 18 digs.  Barbara Guedes finished with 11 kills and 16 digs while Reagan Huff added 10 kills.

The Lady Crusaders are back in action Friday, September 1, as they travel to Montgomery, Ala. to take part in the Faulkner Invite.  They will take on Tennessee Wesleyan at 11:00 am and Columbia International at 3:00 pm.
