HATTIESBURG, Miss. – #9 William Carey Men's Soccer picked up their first win of the season, as they defeated LSU-Alexandria 2-1, Saturday afternoon at Danny Owens Field.
Jamie Wynne picked up the first goal of the season for the Crusaders in the eighth minute, as he fired a shot off a pass from
Caoimhin McConnell into the top left corner of goal.
The 1-0 Carey lead would hold until the 67
th minute of the second half when Wynne connected with
Djordje Djukovic to put WCU up by two. The Generals best opportunity came in the 86
th minute in the form of penalty kick.
However, Crusaders keeper
Andreas Kokoska came through with the save to keep LSUA off the board but two minutes later the Generals broke through the Carey defense on a goal by Daniel Torrenegra. That would be as close as LSUA would get as the WCU defense held the Generals without a shot over the final minutes.
The Crusaders are back in action Tuesday, August 29, as they take on Xavier University. Kick-off is scheduled for 7:00 pm at Danny Owens Field.
