Crusaders Sweep Double Header Against Blue Mountain

BLUE MOUNTAIN, Miss. – #12 William Carey Baseball opened up a three game series against Blue Mountain Christian University with a double header sweep, taking game one 17-10 and game two 10-0 in seven innings, Saturday afternoon at Topper Field.

Game one saw a combined 25 hits and 27 runs and of those runs 16 were scored in the first three innings.  Bobby Lada started the scoring in the top of the first with a two run double to left but BMCU answered in the bottom half of the inning with two runs of their own.

The Crusaders retook the lead in the top of the second with six runs on five hits.  Brady Logan scored three of those launching a three run homerun to rightfield.  RJ Stinson followed with a triple to left center and would score on a balk.

Bailee Hendon scored Kris Jones with a single to right and Lada plated the final run of the inning to put Carey up 8-2.  However, the Toppers scored two runs in the bottom half of the inning and four more in the third to tie the game once again.

After trading runs in the fifth, WCU took the lead for good in the sixth on a Hendon two run homer to left center.  Blue Mountain would get one run in the bottom half of the inning but the Crusaders put the game away for good with six runs in the seventh.

A defensive miscue scored the first two runs of the inning with Stinson and Jones driving in two more.  Caleb Laird scored the final runs of the inning with a two run single.  Lane Jarreau picked up the win in relief going 2.2 innings allowing two runs on two hits with Preston Ratliff getting the save.

The Carey offense stayed hot in game two and in the second inning, Lada started the inning off with a solo homerun to leftfield.  Billy Garrity made it 3-0 WCU with a two run shot to center and a sac fly by Jones scored the fourth run with an error plating the fifth.

The Crusaders extended their lead in the fourth, as Stinson doubled to rightfield to score Rigoberto Hernandez.  Jones scored Logan on a sac fly and a defensive miscue would make it an eight run lead for Carey.

Jones capped his stellar day at the plate with a two run homerun to right to give Carey the run rule victory.  AJ Stinson took care the rest going all seven innings allowing only two hits with seven strikeouts to pick up the win on the mound.

WCU is back in action tomorrow as they wrap up the series with a single game beginning at 2:00 pm.
