COCHRAN, Ga. - #19 William Carey Softball had a bit of déjà vu against #13 Middle Georgia State, as they dropped game one 4-0 and needed extra innings to take game two 4-1 in 10 innings Friday afternoon.
In game one, the Knights got two runs in the second and two more in the sixth and the MGA pitcher sealed the win limiting the Carey offense to just two hits.
Runs were at a premium in game two. Middle Georgia broke the deadlock, pushing across a run in the fifth. Just as it looked like the Lady Crusaders were going to drop game two,
Brooke Tanner kept the seventh inning alive with a two out single.
After a walk loaded the bases,
Carley Kidder would send the game into extra innings with a single to left to score
Kinley Hogue. Using the international tie-breaker rule entering the 10
th inning, Rodriguez would move to third on an error by MGA putting runners on the corners.
Susie LeBert would follow with the biggest hit of the afternoon, a three run blast to left field to give WCU a three run lead. Starting pitcher
Ryanne Hornsby sealed the win with the three straight outs in the bottom half the inning.
Hornsby finished the game, going all 10 innings allowing just one run on five hits with seven strikeouts.
The Lady Crusaders are back in action Friday, April 7, as they take Georgia Gwinnett in non-conference action. First pitch is scheduled for 1:00 pm at Joseph & Nancy Fail Field.
