MOBILE, Ala. - #19 William Carey Softball split a mid-week conference match-up against #15 Mobile, taking game one 4-2 but falling in game two 6-3 Tuesday evening.
After back to back outs to start the game, the Lady Crusaders got a single by
Carley Kidder followed by a
Dee Dee West RBI double to left center to put Carey up 1-0.Â
Susie LeBert made it three straight hits with a single to center that would score West.Â
Albanie Fussell capped the scoring in the first inning with a RBI double to leftfield to give WCU a 3-0 lead.
The Rams would cut the deficit to one with two runs in the third but would get no closer as the Lady Crusaders would add an insurance run in the seventh on a LeBert RBI double for the final margin.Â
Haley Nations picked up the win in the circle going seven innings allowing two runs on four hits while striking out six.
Carey got off to a slow start in game two finding themselves in a 6-0 hole after four innings of play. The Lady Crusaders finally got things going in the sixth inning.Â
Brooke Tanner and
Rachel Rodriguez started the inning off with back to back base hits and Kidder followed with a three run blast to right field but that would be as close as Carey would get.
The Lady Crusaders are back in action Friday, April 14, as they take on Stillman College in SSAC action. First pitch is scheduled for 3:00 pm at Joseph & Nancy Fail Field.
