TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - #20 William Carey Baseball crushed Stillman College to complete the sweep of the Tigers, taking game one 29-2 in seven innings and game two 18-3 in eight innings Saturday afternoon.
The Crusaders took a one run lead in the first on a Stillman error and extended their lead in the second with four runs highlighted by a
Jake Lycette two run homerun. Carey dealt the biggest blow of the game in the fourth inning, sending 24 batters to the plate and scoring 19 runs on nine hits.
Of the nine hits there was a two run homerun and a grandslam by
RJ Stinson, a solo homerun by
Rigoberto Hernandez, and four doubles. Carey capped the scoring with five runs over the final three innings of play for the final margin.
Connor Adams picked up the win going four innings allowing one run on four hits with three strikeouts.
WCU continued the offensive show in game two, scoring two runs in the third on a
Bailee Hendon RBI single and a Tiger error. The Crusaders added to their lead in the fourth as
Bobby Lada ripped a RBI triple to center to score
Brady Wilson. Â Hernandez would score Lada with a sac fly and
Patrick Lee made it 5-0 WCU with a RBI triple to right.
Lada followed up his triple from the fourth with a solo homerun in the fifth and Hernandez made it a seven run advantage with a RBI double to center. The Crusaders would add a run in the sixth and three in the seventh on a Lee three run homerun. Carey finished things off with seven runs in the eighth for the run rule victory.
Preston Ratliff picked up the win on the mound going 6.2 innings allowing three runs on one hit with 10 strikeouts.
The Crusaders are back in action Tuesday, March 28, as they take on LSU-Alexandria in non-conference action. First pitch is scheduled for 4:00 pm at Milton Wheeler Field.
