Lady Crusaders go 3-1 on Road Trip

BLUE MOUNTAIN, Miss. – #19 William Carey Softball concluded their road trip, sweeping Blue Mountain  Christian University Friday afternoon, taking game one 7-1 and game two 10-1 in five innings.

The Lady Crusaders took the early lead in game one on a Dee Dee West two run homerun in the first but the Toppers got one run back in the bottom half of the inning.  The score would remain 2-1 Carey until the seventh when WCU plated five runs on four hits.

Brooke Tanner pushed the first run across with a single. Rachel Rodriguez and Carley Kidder followed with RBI singles to make it 5-1 Carey.  Susie Lebert and Ryanne Hornsby capped the scoring with a sac fly and RBI groundout.

Hornsby picked up the win in the circle going all seven innings allowing one run on two hits with eight strikeouts.

WCU left little to doubt in game two scoring runs in all five innings.  After trading runs in the first inning, the Lady Crusaders took the lead for good in the second on a single by Tanner that scored Hornsby and a sac fly by Rodriguez to make it 3-1 Carey.

Kinley Hogue made 4-1 with a RBI double to left center in the third and in the fourth inning back to back RBI doubles by Kidder and West would extend the Lady Crusader lead to 6-1.  Carey would finish things off in the fifth with four runs on four hits for the final margin.

Haley Nations picked up the win in the circle going four innings allowing one run on five hits while striking out five.

On Thursday night WCU split their SSAC doubleheader with Stillman College. The Tigers bested Carey in extra innings in game one, 4-3 but WCU rebounded to take game two, 3-2

WCU is back in action Friday, March 31, as they travel to Cochran, Ga. to take on #13 Middle Georgia State in SSAC action.  First pitch is scheduled for 1:00 pm.
