TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – #20 William Carey Baseball opened up a three game series against Stillman College with a 9-5 victory Friday afternoon.
A defensive miscue in the first and a two run single by
RJ Stinson in the second inning would give the Crusaders the early 3-0 lead. It would not be until the seventh inning that the score would change, with Carey plating three runs.
Bailee Hendon got things started with a solo shot to right and
Braydon Coffey drove in
Bobby Lada with triple to left and would later score on a wild pitch.
The Crusaders added to their lead in the eighth with Lada scoring two on a double to left center and Coffey driving in one on a single to left to make it 9-0 Carey. The Tigers managed to get three runs in the bottom half of the inning and two more in the ninth before relief pitcher
Caeleb Williams shut down the Stillman offense with three straight strikeouts.
Andrew Shirah picked up the win on the mound going eight innings allowing five runs on five hits with four strikeouts.
WCU is back in action tomorrow, as they wrap up the series with a double header beginning at 1:00 pm.
