Lady Crusaders Split With Brewton-Parker

HATTIESBURG, Miss. – The William Carey Softball Team returned to the field, splitting a conference double against Brewton-Parker, taking game one 4-0 but falling in game two 5-4 Saturday afternoon at Joseph & Nancy Fail Field.

Carley Kiider put Carey up 1-0 in the first inning on a sac fly and Hannah Dufault made it 3-0 WCU in the second inning with a two run homerun to left.  The Lady Crusaders added the final run of the game in the fifth on a Dee Dee West RBI double to left center.

Ryanne Hornsby picked up the win in the circle going all seven innings allowing five hits with eight strikeouts.

In game two, defensive miscues by Carey proved the difference, as they accounted for four of the Baron runs.  The first defensive miscue allowed BPC to take the early lead with two runs in the second but the Lady Crusaders got things in the bottom of the third.

A RBI groundout by Kidder would score Alex Davis and West followed with a RBI single to center to tie the game.  Later in the third, Carey would take a 4-2 lead on back to back RBI base hits by Hornsby and Albanie Fussell.

WCU would hold the two run lead until the fifth when the Barons made the most of the second Carey error pushing across two runs to the tie game.  BPC would take the lead for good in the sixth on a solo homerun.

The Lady Crusaders are back in action Monday as they take on Middle Georgia State in SSAC action.  First pitch of the double header is slated for 2:00 pm at Joseph & Nancy Fail Field.
