Crusaders Sweep Barons

MOUNT VERNON, Ga. – The William Carey Baseball team completed the sweep of Brewton-Parker College, taking both games of the Friday double header at Baron Field.

In game one, Jake Lycette put the Crusaders on the board in the first inning with a RBI double to left center.  Carey extended their lead in the second, as RJ Stinson scored Rigoberto Hernandez with a single to right and Patrick Lee followed with a two run homerun to put WCU up 4-0.

Lycette made it 5-0 in the fifth with a solo shot to right but the Barons answered in the bottom of the fifth with four runs to cut the deficit to one.  The Crusaders would add an insurance run in the sixth on a Stinson RBI triple but BPC would not quietly cutting the deficit to one again in the seventh but relief pitcher John Synder would limit the Barons to just the one run to preserve the 6-5 win.

Carey left little to doubt in game two with an 18-5 run rule victory.  The Carey offense got things rolling in the first with Preston Ratliff scoring two runs with a single down the left field line.  Brady Wilson and Caleb Laird followed with RBIs to give WCU an early 4-0 lead.

Stinson led off the second with a solo home run, then Bailee Hendon and Ratliff drove in runs on sacrifice flies to make 7-0 Crusaders. The Crusaders then put the game away with 11 runs over the final four innings.

WCU is back in action Friday, March 24, as they travel to Tuscaloosa, Ala. to take on Stillman College in SSAC action.  First pitch is scheduled for 2:00 pm.
