Hattiesburg, Miss. - #15 William Carey Softball picked up two SSAC wins Saturday afternoon, defeating Faulkner University 1-0 and 3-2, at Joseph & Nancy Fail Field.
Game one saw a pitchers a duel, as there were only six hits over the first five innings and no runs allowed. However, in the sixth inning back to back one out hits by the Lady Crusaders would put runners on second and third.Â
Ryanne Hornsby then stepped to the plate and delivered what would be the game winner with a single up the middle.
Hornsby picked up the win in the circle going seven innings allowing only three hits with five strikeouts.
Game two saw a little more offense, as the Eagles struck first with a run in the first inning to take the early lead. WCU would even things up in the bottom of the second on an
Alex Davis RBI single. The score would remain tied at one until the sixth when Faulkner would push across one run on a RBI double by Anna Marie Stooksbury.
Carey would not go down without a fight and a one out single in the bottom of the sixth by
Kinley Hogue would tie the game once again. With two outs and runners on first and second
Brooke Tanner put the Lady Crusaders ahead with an RBI single to left.
Faulkner threatened in the seventh getting a runner to third with two outs but Hornsby induced a harmless groundball to secure the win.
WCU is back in action Friday, March 17, as they take SSAC foe Middle Georgia State. First pitch of the double is scheduled for 2:00 pm at Joseph & Nancy Fail Field.Â
